The Old Ways are New Again

America needs to rethink its food situation. Where it comes from and where and who processes it. I have nothing against big corporations except that when they control your food supply and then the supply chain breaks down and all they say is sorry were shutdown or we can’t supply you because our suppliers are shut down………then what. You better know how or where to get what you need or have some supplies stored for just such an occasion. My ancestors were in this country before it was a country, pre-revolutionary war. Independent and self sufficient. All the way down to my grandparents and my parents they canned fruit, vegetables and meat. It was part of daily living not a prepper thing as it is considered now days. Raised gardens, chickens, hogs and a cow or two for meat, along with a milk cow. Times change and modern convenience makes this unnecessary,……….or does it? Everyone dosen’t have time to operate a small farm but you can still buy local, keep your food chain regional. By meat from a local butcher and but it by the whole, half or quarters. Have it cut and freezer wrapped or do it yourself as much as possible, a small grinder is not very expensive and there is satisfaction from preparing your own food for storage plus its usually better quality. Buy produce when it’s in season and freeze or can it. We didn’t grow corn but we bought it by the pickup bed full when it was ready to be sold by local growers. Shuck and blanch and freeze or can. A lot of work but we knew we had corn for a year or more. Peaches, strawberries, squash, green beans, purple hull peas, etc. Buy local and store it. We hunted a lot and ate it fresh mostly and froze a little. Same with fish, we fished and trotlined, eat it fresh and froze some. You can buy fresh fish at fish markets in some parts of the country or find a fish farm that will ship to you. This isn’t the answer to the food problem but it’s a start. Dairy products is another area to explore. Are there local dairies that sell to the public near you? Cows or goats, I like the milk and cheese from both. You better get an old fashion attitude toward your food chain and who it comes from or you will be at the mercy of the government and big corporations. I myself would rather depend on ME. My Scot-Irish heritage makes me hard headed and a bit rebellious and very independent, but sometimes that is what it takes to survive and take back the control over your own life and destiny. Live modern and practice the old ways of living life. Take time to appreciate the world around you and all that is available. ” A Country Boy Can Survive ” no matter where he lives. Ain’t to many things these ol’boys cain’t do. Stay strong, stay free and remember. All you need to survive in this life is Jesus and a .45. Develop a new way of surviving, depend on yourself and pray for help to do so,…every day.
