American Preppers

I hope this post doesn’t find you lacking in supplies or tactics during these uncertain times but the thing is that we have always lived in uncertain times.

There have been brief times throughout history when we were comfortable with current affairs, our economy or were confident in the majority of our fellow Americans moral compass that causes a person to do what is right or that at least any wrong would be combated. When there is that brief span of peace or tranquility or cease fire or whatever you want to call it you better be prepping and reloading because it will not last. We live in a fallen world and man will never achieve utopia that’s the plain and simple truth. We should not stop striving towards peace but we should not stop preparing for the worst. Your life and the lives of the one’s you love may someday depend on your preparedness.

Water, food, shelter, fire and way to protect and keep these things ( guns and ammo ). Basic stuff I know but, ( yes that word but changes everything every time ). But I am surprised at the amount of people that have no basic survival skills and I’m not talking about wilderness survival. I’m talking about basic everyday at your house on the street in your community or on your small farm survival. It was the way our ancestors lived, heck it was how I was raised. Some people don’t know where or how to start because it has been lost in a few generations so maybe i can help my fellow man and woman by bestowing some simple survival tips that were deemed everyday life at one time. I will throw out a few tips today but I’m considering writing a small condense version of a book that’s easy to understand and has some quick reference. Even though we do not agree with all people and everyone out there I do not desire to see anyone suffer ( ok, maybe that was a lie, there probably are a few people that I wouldn’t mind to see suffer but that is just one area that I’m constantly working on in my Christian walk. Yes I’m not perfect. ) Most of my close friends are apt in taking care of themselves and being prepared, I know who I can count on and that’s something else that needs to be on your list, people that you can count on no matter if they are as prepared as you or not. It doesn’t matter to me if you’re a Christian or not that’s not what this is about but my faith plays a big part in my thinking and desire to help others so if you’re not a Christian or you have disdain for religion in general lets put that aside and see if I can help you or if you have advice that would help me on the survival subject send me a message or comment.

During civil unrest or natural disaster you should have some water in case utilities go out. Bottle water is most peoples first thought, that’s great but if you have the room and ability I suggest a few 55 plastic barrels filled with your current water supply. Clean barrels with a cap full of bleach added to the community water that you fill them with will last for years. Your hot water heater has several gallons in it that can be used for flushing the toilet and drinking if you absolutely have to ( there are sediments in your hot water tank that you really don’t want to drink.) Keep a minimum of three months food, easy prep would be dry pinto beans and rice. keep them cool and dry and they will last ten years or more and they will keep you alive. Make sure and have plenty of salt and pepper, I buy salt by the 25lb bags and pepper in bulk.I do a lot of cooking so I have many many spices. I buy beans and rice in bulk also ( quick tip, minute rice cooks faster if you are trying to conserve on your cooking fuel.) If you dont think salt is very important for survival you better study history, pre 1900 history or least watch a few westerns you might be surprised what you can learn about food and survival. Buy what you will eat and rotate it. Canned food like veggies will last up to 12 or more years, the nutritional value drops but it will keep you alive. Canned meat 5 to 10 years depending on how and where you keep it. Anything with tomatoes or tomato sauce will have a shorter shelf life due to the acid. Now days shelter in place is the word. Make sure that you can secure your shelter or if you have to bug out make sure you have a tent or at least one or two tarps ( people die of exposure ). No matter if weather is cold or hot you need fire unless you are prepared to cold camp and or eat MRE’s. Cold camping is not good for morale or your attitude ( we can get more in depth in the book about the human psyche.) Not first on the list but first and foremost to me is guns and ammunition. Without this you cannot keep the rest. I am well equipped in this area and always have been, it’s always been part of my life since child hood. But I have become aware that there are many Americans who are new to guns or still do not have one. My advice is always safety, safety, safety people. Be safe, learn how to use your weapon, learn how to clean your weapon, learn how and practice with your weapon even if it’s just empty and you are aiming and dry firing, practice makes perfect even though some people are just naturals with a gun ( i use my brother Dennis Renfro as an example.) most folks need practice. Take a course learn all you can, you don’t have to be a gun smith just gain some knowledge. Learn from those who know, I’ve been blessed with a lifetime of knowledgeable people around me. Everyone has a preference on caliber and brands but if you gave me two choices and that’s all then i would pick a 22 caliber rifle and an AK47 in 7.62×39. We can do the AK – AR debate laterr. These calibers are my choice for if The Shit Hits the Fan 22, 7.63×39, 45acp, 223 or 5.56 ( my AR,s will shoot either) 12 gauge shotgun ( bird shot or buck shot doesn’t matter to me I don’t want be shot with either.) A pellet gun in 177 caliber and a bow and arrow, crossbow, recurve or compound.

If you transfer food from its original container make sure that it gets back into a food safe container or bucket and seal it tight. I only buy what I eat and I rotate. Coffee and sugar are important to me, decide for yourself. Tobacco and candy are mood enhancers as well as whiskey and wine. Whiskey keeps forever and so will honey, hard candy lasts a long long time ( even if you just want to look through it.) Not to mention knowing how to make whiskey and grow vegetables as well as hunting and fishing.

There are 7 million new gun owners in America this year. Take that how you want to.

Be Safe Be Prepared more later.
